This world, known as "Laughter Pictures," is called "Shunga" (spring pictures), which is said to be a "love at first sight" depiction. It portrays a humorous comedy about the eccentric people captivated by this world!

【Highlights of the Work】
This film comically depicts the love for shunga, which was once considered the hidden glamour of Edo culture and also called "Laughter Pictures." It features a serious researcher of shunga and a diligent apprentice, a master-apprentice duo, exploring the deep魅力 of shunga.
Starring Seiyo Uchino, with Kana Kita as the heroine, and co-starring Tasuku Emoto, Kazuko Shirakawa, and Yūmi Adachi.
Directed and written by Akihiko Shiota, a master filmmaker known for provocative works such as "Whisper of Moonlight" (1999) and "Pest" (2002).

Since shunga was banned by the Edo shogunate and not publicly displayed, it allowed for free creative expression, reaching the realm of unending art that captivated commoners and daimyō alike, making it a true entertainment of the Edo period.
Until now, handling of shunga has been taboo in Japanese cinema, with depictions of genitalia requiring blurring or censorship for Eirin (Film Classification and Rating Organization) approval.

However, this work received a classification of 【R15+】 from Eirin and, as a commercial film released nationwide in Japan, it is the first in Japanese film history to feature uncensored depictions of ukiyo-e shunga.
"Shunga Sensei" was produced with the aim of expressing this free spirit through modern cinema. It is an eccentric love comedy depicting eccentric characters obsessed with what they love!

【Synopsis】
The eccentric researcher Ichiro Haga, known as "Shunga Sensei," has been immersed in his studies alone, having lost his wife and living as a recluse.
Yumiko Haruno, bored with her daily life, learns about shunga from Haga and becomes captivated by its profound魅力, developing romantic feelings for him.
Soon, chaos ensues with the appearance of editor Tsujimura, eager to complete Haga’s "Complete Guide to Shunga," and Ichiyo, the sister of Haga’s late wife.
This marks the beginning of Yumiko’s "awakening."
