Ryoko Sunakawa is a renowned soprano, famous for her charming stage presence and voice that moves listeners’ hearts. She won the 34th Japan-Italy Vocal Competition in 1998, 1st place at the 69th Japan Music Competition in 2000, the 16th Goto Memorial Cultural Award & Opera Newcomer Award in 2005, and the Zandonai Prize at the Riccardo Zandonai International Vocal Competition in 2006, among many awards. She graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae and completed its graduate school. From 2001 to 2004, she studied in Italy as an opera scholarship student of the Ezoiku Education Foundation. From 2005, she studied again in Italy as a scholarship student of the Goto Memorial Cultural Foundation.
She made her opera debut in the title role of "Orpheus and Eurydice" at the New National Theatre. Since then, she has performed in numerous productions, consistently earning high praise for her singing backed by her proven ability. Her portrayal of Mimi in "La Bohème" was broadcast on NHK and acclaimed as the "ideal Mimi in both singing and appearance." Recently, she performed in the Opera Summer Festival 2019-20 with the Barcelona Symphony in "Turandot," at the Nissay Theatre in "Tosca," at Biwako Hall in "Twilight of the Gods," at the New National Theatre in "Gianni Schicchi," "Carmen," "The Elixir of Love," "The Magic Flute," at Hyogo Prefectural Arts & Culture Center in "La Bohème," with the Tokyo Philharmonic in "Falstaff," and in the Japan Opera Association’s "The Tale of Genji," among others. She also appears with major domestic orchestras and on TV and radio programs frequently. She has been a regular performer at the NHK New Year Opera Concert since her debut in 2002.
In 2019, she released her highly anticipated debut album "Bel Canto," and in 2024, her second album "When You Feel Sad ~ Melodies of Japanese Songs" (this album). She is from Miyako Island, Okinawa, a member of the Fujiwara Opera Company, and a lecturer at Musashino Academia Musicae.

Ryuichiro Sonoda (Piano)

He debuted in 2006 conducting Puccini’s "Tosca" at Siena’s Giacomo Puccini Summer Music Week. In 2007, he conducted the Furore Opera "Journey to Lanzarote" at the Furore Opera Festival in Pescara, performed with the Tuscany Orchestra in Florence, and with the Bellini Theatre Orchestra in Catania. Since then, he has performed in various operas and concerts both domestically and internationally, and is highly regarded as a collaborative pianist with many singers.
He received the 16th Goto Memorial Cultural Award & Opera Newcomer Prize in 2005, the 16th Saito Hideo Memorial Foundation Award in 2017, and the 73rd Art Encouragement Prize (New Artist Award) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2022. He is the conductor of the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo and the artistic director of the Fujisawa Citizens Opera.
