The authentic Chikuzen Hakata Ori is a textile produced in Fukuoka City Hakata Ward and its surrounding areas.
It is woven with silk fabric based on one of the Buddhist ritual implements, the Dokko and flower bowls, featuring geometric patterns.
Since Chikuzen lord Nagamasa Kuroda presented it to the shogunate during the Edo period, it is also called Hakata Presentation or Presentation Hakata.
It is woven with a technique called 'okiba' weaving, which makes the horizontal ridges stand out.
Using 30 to 60 fine warp threads, it has firmness and resilience, and the fabric has a stiff texture and a glossy appearance.
It is said to be a well-fitted, hard-to-lose, and easy-to-tie obi.
