■ Details
This currency was issued due to the revision of the Coinage Law in 1922 (Taisho 11).
Affected by the recession after World War I and in line with the slump in international commodity prices, the soaring price of silver began to stabilize in the 1920s (Taisho era). Consequently, the weight of silver coins was further reduced in this revision.
The design of the silver coins established at this time, with slight modifications to the obverse design (characters still in clerical script), was adopted, excluding the Yatagarasu and Roman alphabet notation from the reverse of the Yatagarasu silver coin.
It was manufactured for many years until 1938 (Showa 13) and was affectionately known as "Giza" (reeded) during its circulation, becoming one of the coins deeply familiar to the Japanese people of that era.
