The role of Detective Shogo Oue, who is involved in black rumors such as collusion with yakuza and uses unorthodox investigative methods, is played by Koji Yakusho, a leading star and acclaimed actor in Japanese cinema.
The elite rookie detective, Shuichi Hideo, who gradually becomes influenced despite questioning Oue’s methods, is played by Tori Matsuzaka.
The role of the young head of the Oya-gumi, Moritaka Ichinose, who is attacked by the Gojiko-kai and Kakomura-gumi factions, is played by Yosuke Eguchi.
The club “Riko”’s mama, Rika Takagi, who is an old acquaintance of Oue and cooperates in investigations, is played by Yoko Maki.
Takeshi Tanakenouchi, making his first yakuza role, plays the younger head of the Kakomura-gumi, a more violent and ferocious faction.

The original work is "Koro no Chi" by Yuko Yuzuki, which won the 69th Mystery Writers of Japan Award, published by Kadokawa Bunko.
It is a police novel praised for its intricate, dense human drama and complex story development that includes mystery elements.
Yuzuki herself states, “This novel was born because of ‘Battles Without Honor and Humanity’,” and Toei, inheriting that DNA, passionately adapts it into a film.
Filming was conducted entirely in Hiroshima, centered around Kure, which served as the model for Kurehara, capturing the dry Showa-era world on film.

【Story】
In 1988 (Showa 63), in Hiroshima’s Kurehara—just before the enactment of the Anti-Organized Crime Law—organized crime groups still hold sway, and tensions simmer between the Kakomura-gumi, affiliated with the large Hiroshima organization Gojiko-kai, and the local Yakuza group Oya-gumi.
Amidst this, an employee of a financial company related to the Kakomura-gumi disappears.
Veteran detective Oue and rookie detective Hideo, suspecting murder, race to solve the case, but the yakuza conflicts swallow justice, love, and money alike…
The police organization’s schemes, dark suspicions directed at Oue himself, and various desires lead to a bloody revenge war involving both the yakuza and police.
