Hisato Osawa (1907-1953), born in Kobe and one of modern Japan's most important composers, began his career as a pianist, conductor, and composer while at Kwansei Gakuin University. After graduation, he immediately went to the United States, and then for a short period to London and Paris, where he produced a succession of masterpieces to critical acclaim. He was a precocious genius. Two chamber music works from Osawa's Boston period will be released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth, recorded by Otaken Records, Kenji Ota. This recording was made in March of last year, simultaneously with the (likely) Japanese premiere of these works at the "Hisato Osawa and His Era ~ Chamber Music Concert" held at the Hyogo Performing Arts Center, and is believed to be the world's first CD release. The Piano Trio is a masterpiece that expresses the composer's inner self in Osawa's unique musical language, and is a work that tends to appeal to connoisseurs, while the Piano Quintet is a more accessible masterpiece that incorporates Japanese taste, and is expected to be added to the ranks of great piano quintets of all time and performed more often in the future. Furthermore, this CD includes liner notes by Hidenori Katayama, which are extremely detailed, spanning over 20 pages of manuscript paper, further enhancing the value of this CD release of Osawa's works!
