As a sequel, it was recorded with the same concept and pushed forward with a sound, and the G.C.R. Orchestra's "Otsukura Recording 2021" is now available, completing a trilogy that also adds an important perspective to the history of kayōkyoku and features a more elaborate arrangement! ▼The recording was conducted on April 18 and 19, 2023, at the Yōkura House Otsukura in Sawara, Katori City, Chiba Prefecture. Like the previous two works, the arrangements of pre-war popular songs and kayōkyoku are as close to the original as possible, and the recording method is a single take simultaneous recording using a single Mazda Type A velocity microphone in the pre-war style, without multitracking. In addition to the vibraphone, piano, oboe, and second violin used in the previous work, extra performers and instruments such as shakuhachi, electric guitar, ukulele, glockenspiel, and celesta were added to aim for a more authentic reproduction and a more diverse selection of songs. ▼This time, the familiar Yamada Sansuke, who weaves songs with a Showa kayōkyoku taste, is joined by Miho Kimura, who also provides female vocals for the Gentle Forest Jazz Band, as well as Koyuki Yanagi, who takes on ambitious songs based on Edo music, and the enchanting singer Sayuri Nishimoto as vocalists. ▼The series maintains a consistent "Oto Shugi" (sound principle), focusing on "melody, arrangement, and recording," and features a selection of songs that are distinct from hit songs and those passed down through generations. To authentically verify the sound trends of kayōkyoku in the 1930s, songs by composers such as Yoruji Eguchi, Kyosuke Kami, Takeo Abe, Tokujiro Okubo, as well as Tatsuji Higashi, Itsurō Hattori, and Sui Sano (supervised by his grandson Kyoichi Watanabe for Sano Sui's compositions) are included. By listening through all three works, you can enjoy the mesmerizing pre-war sound.
