・正長年間1428年～天分年間1555年に東国（現在の佐野市周辺）でつくられた天明釜。・「平蜘蛛」という名前の由来は、一般的な茶釜に比べて、蜘蛛が這いつくばっているような低く平らな形をしていたことから、付けられたという。・松永久秀が所有していた名器の一つである。織田信長から何度も所望されたが、断っている。一方、松永久秀は臣従する際に、九十九茄子を織田信長に進呈している。・天正5年(1577年)10月10日、松永久秀が織田信長に攻められ、大和国、信貴山城で自害する際に、平蜘蛛茶釜に爆薬を仕込みともに爆死したという伝説がある。
