【Introduction】
Wherever the medicine seller appears, the presence of Mononoke can be felt—here, a new story of “salvation” manifests.
In 2006, the episode "Bake Neko" from the highly acclaimed "Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales" aired on Fuji TV's "Noitamina" block, achieving unusually high viewership ratings. Since its broadcast as a TV anime series in 2007, "Mononoke" has maintained strong popularity. Under the direction of the series creator, Kenji Nakamura, and with a talented staff, it has been revived as a theatrical film.
In an era where the seeds of Mononoke can take root in anyone’s heart, a story of “salvation” that stirs the soul emerges.
【Story】
The Ōoku is a “female domain” where beautiful women and talented women gather from all over to produce the heir to the “Emperor,” and it is also a vital bureaucratic institution. It is a unique space governed by its own rules—a “society” of sorts.
New maids Asa (Tomoyo Kurosawa) and Kame (Aoi Yuki) step into this alien environment.
Asa, talented and ambitious, seeks career advancement; Kame, longing to belong to the Ōoku, seeks her place. From their first day, they are made to participate in a “ritual” where they offer “something precious” to the “Mizu-sama,” worshiped within the Ōoku, to be fully absorbed into the group.
An incident that occurs there begins to forge a bond between the two.
The elder Yamashiro (Mami Koyama), who prioritizes the prosperity and perpetuity of the Ōoku, manages the maids but hides something behind her expressionless face. Meanwhile, gradually, “something” begins to envelop them—nightly accumulation of women’s passions, strange noises like the rattling of a paper umbrella, and maids losing their reason as if possessed…
Finally, a tragic event occurs. The medicine seller (Hiroshi Kamiya) pursues the Mononoke into the heart of the Ōoku, but the exorcism sword capable of slaying and banishing Mononoke requires the perfect combination of “Form,” “Truth,” and “Reason” to break the seal.
When the medicine seller uncovers the terrifying yet poignant truth hidden within the Ōoku, the ritual of exorcism and salvation begins.
