Description:
This is a rare top mat with a checkered pattern only on the border. Simply laying this top mat can refresh your tatami room. It is suitable for refreshing tatami that has become sun-bleached, and can be used as a cover to prevent dirt on new tatami mats.
Using a proprietary weaving machine modified with the manufacturer's unique technology, the checkered pattern is expressed solely through the natural color of the material and weaving.
For those who find plain top mats lacking personality and desire a more luxurious feel, this is recommended.
The mat uses approximately 95cm of domestically produced (Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture) igusa, which is about 115–120cm in length.
Typically, the border edge tends to be strongly whitish (not due to sun damage, but the color of the base and tip of the igusa).
This characteristic of the base and tip color difference is utilized to create the checkered pattern. (Therefore, the checkered pattern only appears within the white base area; the middle part remains plain.)
Higher-quality igusa is longer.
The tip of the igusa is reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).
Using domestically produced igusa from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, which is thicker, has a thicker epidermis, and finer fibers, making it resilient and durable.
Igusa has air purification properties, humidity regulation, and is less prone to dirt accumulation.
The fabric surface has been processed with "Hiba Essence" extracted from Japanese cypress (hinoki) wood from Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's proprietary technology.
Hiba Essence contains hinokitiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties. (Compared to untreated products, it offers antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
Both sides of the mat can be used, making it economical.
