An astonishing talent who has consecutively won prestigious global music awards, including the 2019 Gramophone Classical Music Awards "Artist of the Year" and the 1920 German "Opus Klassik Award" for Instrumental Recording (Piano).
■ This is a rework album, a sequel/addition to the previous work "Debussy - Rameau," which combined the works of two revolutionary geniuses, Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) and Claude Debussy (1862-1918), separated by approximately 200 years. Through their dialogue, the album highlights the true value, modernity, and similarities of their compositions. It also includes new arrangements by Víkingur Ólafsson himself and various other artists.
■ Meditative reworkings based on phrases from Debussy's or Rameau's works emphasize the intrinsic value of the original compositions, presenting their charm from multiple perspectives. Cutting-edge artists from diverse genres participate in the reworkings, including Polish post-classical composer-pianist Hania Rani, Icelandic multi-talented artist Helgi Jónsson who also supports Sigur Rós, the Icelandic male duo Högni (Pétur Jónsson, Bergur Þórisson), British producer/DJ/composer Clark, and Baldur Möller, who is highly acclaimed in the post-classical scene.
■ In addition to the standard grand piano performances of Debussy's original "Heath" and "Canope," intimate recordings on an upright piano are also included as [Home Sessions], offering a highly contrasting sound experience.
