Target Species

Many wide-gaped models have the hook point facing almost parallel to the assist line. This allows you to pick up small, clinging bites from less active yellowtail.
On the other hand, this good hooking can be detrimental, leading to incidental hooking around the body or mouth. The hook point, parallel to the assist line, does not penetrate deeply, causing deformation or tearing of the flesh during fights with large fish.

While Aogijutsu may result in slightly fewer bites, the hook reliably reaches the mouth, and because the hook point faces the tip of the assist, it maximizes its inherent hooking performance and reliably hooks the jawbone.
