This film, the directorial debut of Tomm Moore, who also garnered attention in Japan for "Song of the Sea," surprised the world by being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The visuals, primarily based on the Irish color green, were created using traditional 2D hand-drawn animation for the most part, and were depicted in accordance with medieval paintings, eschewing modern perspective.

The high level of technical skill and richness of expression give the impression of viewing a first-class painting, transcending animation.
The music is by Bruno Coulais, who has worked on numerous film scores, and Kíla, a leading Irish music group.
