He is now one of the most important conductors for the Vienna Philharmonic, and great attention is being paid to the big project 'Bruckner: Complete Symphonies' recordings that this duo has been continuing.
■The fourth installment features Bruckner's early symphony, the highly popular No. 2 in C minor. Although it was the fourth symphony in the order of composition, it was numbered as No. 2. It has a depth reminiscent of late works, evoking the sounds of all creation, and from the beginning of the first movement, a clear sound like wind crossing the highlands captures the ear. The beauty of the long-breathed melody in the second movement Andante is exceptional. Thielemann's interpretation, using Caragan's second draft, highlights the elegant and rich sound of the Vienna Philharmonic, making it perfect for this work. The Vienna Philharmonic's recording of this piece is the third version after Stein (1973) and Muti (2016).
