Like a bud blooming into a flower, or the season from spring to summer, Brahms's Symphony No. 2, quietly and powerfully transforming with energy and vitality, became a recording that reflects my sixth season as music director and the journey and friendship with Tonkünstler Orchestra.
This album was recorded during a very difficult time for all of us, during the Vienna lockdown caused by the novel coronavirus, but I believe I was able to turn into sound the determination to never forget the joy of making music at any time, and the pain and prayer depicted in the second movement.
Elegant yet human. It sounds like my most beloved orchestra.
