Fumie Kato (Cello) Fumie Kato, Violoncello

Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Music, majoring in cello. Awarded the Ataka Prize, Acantus Prize, and Mitsubishi Estate Award during her studies. Completed her master's at the graduate school and received the Acantus Music Award. Graduated top of her class from the Paris Conservatory. Studied abroad for one year at the Paris École Normale de Musique as a scholarship student from 2006.
Studied under Mr. Minoru Sugiyama, Donald Richer, Alain Munié, Fumihiro Kono, and Raphael Pidoux.
Placed 3rd in the 2000 Japan Classical Music Competition National Finals. Received the Sapporo Junior Cello Competition Excellence Award and Yamatou Award. Won the Gold Prize in the Senior Division of the Izumi no Mori Junior Cello Competition in 2001. Performed at the Kyoto Arts Festival "Young Musicians Flying into the World" and received an Encouragement Award.
First place at the 8th Viva Hall Cello Competition in 2008. Awarded the 13th Matsukata Hall Music Prize and the Special Award in 2009. 2nd place in the 7th Tokyo Music Competition Strings Division. 2nd place in the 8th Tokyo Music Competition Strings Division in 2010. 3rd place at the FLAME International Competition (Paris) in 2014.
Performs numerous solo recitals and chamber concerts across Japan. Has collaborated with many orchestras including the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra conducted by Shigeo Ozaki, the Geidai Philharmonia conducted by Taku Yuasa, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Masahiko Enkoji, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kenichiro Kobayashi, the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra conducted by Keiko Mitsuhashi, and the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra conducted by Tetsuji Shinoda.
