【Young talent Justin Taylor unravels the influence of Italy on Bach’s music, using a famous instrument associated with Scott Ross!】
This album features the young harpsichordist Justin Taylor, who has visited Japan twice during the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering wonderful music without pause, and explores the relationship between Bach and Italy. Bach rarely left his hometown Saxony, but he constantly gathered the latest musical information from across Europe. He paid close attention to the innovative music of Italy, the birthplace of the concertante style, studied works by Vivaldi and the Marcello brothers, and skillfully incorporated the dazzling brilliance beyond the Alps into his keyboard compositions. This album includes Italian works that Bach arranged for solo keyboard study, as well as their culmination, the half-tone scale Fantasia and Italian Concerto. The structure connecting the tracks with small pieces of original Italian works is also interesting. Taylor’s lively expression, skillfully wielding the famous instrument at Asas Castle loved by Scott Ross, is very captivating, and it’s impressive how much expressive range can be achieved on the harpsichord.
