The Phantom Mushroom "Maitake" - Overwhelmingly High Beta-1,3-Glucan Content
This is a mushroom from the Grifola family, found in Japan during summer and autumn, growing on larch and beech trees.
Its overall color is pale yellow to white. The stem is flat, about 1mm thick, and 10-30 cm tall, branching out multiple times and having a wavy, petal-like appearance.
It is known among mountaineers and mushroom enthusiasts as a crisp and delicious mushroom, but it is also called a phantom mushroom, difficult to find in China and Korea.
This strain was cultivated and researched by Mina Health Co., Ltd. and was registered with the Life Science and Technology Research Institute of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 2000. (Deposit Number: FERM P-17221)
Furthermore, all research publications regarding maitake beta-glucan have been conducted with the cooperation of Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, using beta-glucan extracted from maitake cultivated from this strain.
Among mushrooms, maitake has an overwhelmingly high content of beta-1,3-glucan. Generally, it was considered to be around 42% beta-1,3-glucan.
Mina Health Co., Ltd. has succeeded in producing maitake containing 62g of beta-1,3-glucan per 100g through their proprietary, improved patented manufacturing process.
