The film gained widespread recognition when its four lead actresses, who were inexperienced in acting, won the Best Actress Award at the 68th Locarno International Film Festival. The director is Ryusuke Hamaguchi, who continues to produce provocative works and solidified his international reputation with this film. The music, composed by Kōtarō Abe, who also worked on Yukio Ninagawa's productions, accompanies the four women's adventures beyond their everyday lives.
