Séverac (1872-1921) is an artist who cannot be forgotten when discussing French piano music. He preferred to imbue his works with the scent of the soil and wind of southern France, rather than the refined elegance of Impressionism, and it is said that he was pleased to be called a "country musician." The suite "La Chanson d'Eve," which forms the centerpiece of this third collection, is truly worthy of that moniker. Composed in 1900, it is based on the ancient Roman poet Virgil's "Georgics." While the influence of his teacher, Vincent d'Indy, can be glimpsed throughout, it is an interesting collection of pieces that also pursues originality. His 1899 Piano Sonata reflects his feelings for his father and young sister, whom he lost one after another at that time. For those who wish to master Séverac, we also offer Volume 1 (8.555855) and Volume 2 (8.572428).
