The steam locomotive Class 8620, No. 58654, appeared in 1922 and was active in various parts of Kyushu before being retired in 1975 and preserved statically at Yatake Station. It resumed operation in 1988 as "SL Aso Boy" on the Hohi Main Line, but ended its service again in 2005. In April 2009, it made its second comeback as "SL Hitoyoshi" on the Hisatsu Line. After the heavy rain disaster in July 2020, it operated on the Kagoshima Main Line, but has finally reached its retirement. This work includes the operation of "SL Aso Boy" and "SL Hitoyoshi," detailed information about the steam locomotive and its carriages, periodic inspections, and the final run on March 24, 2024.
