●This is a solo piano work by Fred Hersch, an American jazz pianist renowned for his delicate touch and beautiful melodies, praised as the "poet of the piano" and made famous by Brad Mehldau who said, "If I hadn't learned from Fred, I probably wouldn't be playing the piano now." ECM releases this album.
●Fred Hersch, who expanded his fan base with the duo album "Alive At The Village Vanguard" released last year with Esperanza, this is his first solo album since "Songs From Home" released in 2020, and his debut solo album on ECM, which is known for its solo piano recordings.
●The album features carefully selected standard songs such as Billy Strayhorn's "Star-Crossed Lovers," Sigmund Romberg's "Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise," Alec Wilder's "Winter Of My Discontent," and Russ Freeman's "The Wind," along with seven original compositions. One of the highlights is the improvisation unique to ECM.
●Just as Hersch is versatile and exploratory in trio and duo settings, his artistic breadth and emotional diversity are most evident in his breathtaking solo performances. Jazz Times magazine praised his unaccompanied playing as "a complete, self-sufficient, and uniquely pure art form," and All About Jazz magazine highly acclaimed, "In the art of solo piano in jazz, there are two classes of performers: Fred Hersch and everyone else."
●Produced together with Manfred Eicher, this album was developed with the responsive acoustics of Lugano Studio and was recorded in May 2023.
●The only ECM work involving Fred Hersch so far is the duo album "S' Song Is You" with Enrico Rava, released in 2022.
