This bag is a one-of-a-kind item, upcycled from kimono and obi fabrics. It features an elegant design that incorporates traditional Japanese beauty into modern life.
This handbag, which can also be used as a clutch, is easy to match with both formal and casual occasions, making it versatile for a wide range of scenes. The beautiful patterns and colors of the kimono and obi will serve as an accent to your outfit, highlighting your individuality.
Furthermore, a bag made from recycled kimono and obi allows the owner to feel the charm of Japanese traditional culture while also proposing a sustainable lifestyle.
We believe this would be a delightful gift not only domestically but also for overseas recipients.
[About the Fabric]We use gorgeous kimono and obi that were used for special occasions during the Showa era. Some of these materials and weaves are no longer in production and are therefore rare. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold threads, embroidery, and Nishijin-ori (a type of brocade weaving), all collected from across the country, making them rare textiles.Due to the high quality of the raw materials, this was only made possible through remaking used items.
[About the Sewing]The bags are sewn in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, the largest bag production area in Japan. They are produced by skilled bag artisans from a company that sells necessary bag materials and has its own factory for YKK zippers. The placement of patterns, orientation, and instructions for the obi-jime (sash cord) used as handles are determined in Tokyo. Then, a mold is created at a factory that produces molds for the sewing factory. The fabric is cut using this mold, and then sewn.Kimono and obi fabrics, with their embroidery and weaves, differ individually and have varying thicknesses and textures, making them very labor-intensive and difficult to sew, even for experienced artisans.Toyooka has a thousand-year tradition of willow luggage, passed down from the technique of "kago" (baskets) made from willow crafts mentioned in the "Kojiki" (Records of Ancient Matters). These bags are produced under strict quality control, nurtured by this thousand-year tradition.
[Notes for Purchase]Regarding the fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi-jime used are previously used or were in stock. Therefore, there may be fold creases, small stains, dirt, scratches, or deterioration. While we take care to remove these, some may occasionally remain. We kindly ask for your understanding that we are recycling and upcycling items that have passed through time, are from older eras, and are not new.
Regarding the color: We take the utmost care to ensure accuracy when posting images, but depending on your computer or mobile phone monitor, the colors of the product you receive may differ slightly from the photos. Please be aware of this in advance.
Regarding the size: Although the fabric is cut uniformly with a mold and sewn by skilled artisans, the thickness of each kimono, obi, and obi-jime varies. For example, areas with a lot of embroidery or thicker obi may result in a slightly smaller finished size. Please understand that there may be slight variations in size.
Regarding handling: The kimono, obi, and obi-jime used are presumed to be silk, but due to their used nature, this is uncertain. (The Consumer Affairs Agency states that there is no obligation to include this information on the product.) Please wash them with silk detergent at your own risk, or consult a professional cleaning service specializing in kimono. Please be cautious of color transfer or bleeding due to rain, water, sweat, or friction.Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can cause discoloration or hardening.Store in a dark, well-ventilated place away from high humidity, and do not store in close contact with other items.Be careful of snagging or friction from nails or sharp objects. The magnetic clasp may adversely affect watches, IC cards, and medical devices such as pacemakers. Please be aware of this.
