Furthermore, the bag, crafted from recycled kimono and obi, allows the wearer to feel the charm of Japan’s traditional culture and promotes a sustainable lifestyle.
It is sure to be appreciated as a gift both domestically and internationally.
About the Fabric:The fabric is made from vibrant kimono and obi used on celebratory days during the Showa era. Some of the materials and weaves used are rare and have already ceased production. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan.Because of the high-quality raw materials, this was only possible through remaking used (pre-owned) items.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan’s largest bag production area.Produced by skilled bag artisans at a company that sells the necessary materials and owns its own factory for YKK zippers.Pattern placement, orientation (top/bottom), and the front/back of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo.Subsequently, molds are created at a factory that produces molds, which are then used to cut the fabric and sew the bag.Since each kimono and obi features unique embroidery, weaving, varying thickness, and uneven textures, the process is labor-intensive and considered difficult even for experienced artisans. In Toyooka, the tradition of basketry made from willow, originating from the "Kiji" (cormorant fishing) techniques described in the Kojiki, has been passed down.Under strict quality control cultivated over a thousand years of tradition, production is carried out.
Precautions for Purchase:Fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. Therefore, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, scratches, or deterioration. While efforts are made to remove these, some may remain. Please understand that the items are recycled and upcycled from older or non-new materials.
Color: We take great care to display accurate colors, but due to differences in monitors (computers, smartphones, etc.), the actual product may differ slightly in hue or shade from the photos. Please understand this in advance.
Size: Although cut uniformly with molds and sewn by skilled artisans, each kimono and obi varies in thickness, embroidery, and overall dimensions. Thicker obi or heavily embroidered items may result in slight size discrepancies, such as a smaller fit. We appreciate your understanding.
Handling:The kimono, obi, and obi cords are presumed to be made of silk, but due to their used condition, this cannot be guaranteed (and there is no obligation to specify this on the product according to the Consumer Affairs Agency). Please wash with a silk-specific detergent or consult a professional kimono cleaning service at your own responsibility.Be cautious of color bleeding or transfer caused by water, sweat, friction, or rain.Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause discoloration or hardening.Store in a well-ventilated, dark place away from other items, avoiding high temperature and humidity.Be careful to prevent snagging or friction from nails or protrusions. The magnetic clasp may affect medical devices such as watches, IC cards, or pacemakers; please use with caution.
