"Gungriffon" is a 3D action game released for the Sega Saturn. This is the third installment in the series, continuing the legacy of that title. Players control a futuristic bipedal weapon called a "HIMAX" (a so-called robot) and advance the story by fighting enemy tanks and HIMAX units on 3D battlefields and completing missions set for each scenario.
A key feature of this game is the extremely high quality of all its surrounding elements. The resulting explosions, the crumbling cityscape, the dense fog that obstructs vision, and even real-life combat vehicles like the Apache helicopter. All of these are depicted with high quality, creating a realistic battlefield. The core system, while having slightly complex button controls, also offers a simplified control mode, making it accessible even for those who haven't played previous titles.
While the versus mode and survival mode from the previous title, "Gungriffon II," have been removed, they have been replaced by even more compelling scenarios, allowing players to fully enjoy a realistic war fought by controlling robots. (Koji Higuchi)
