"Battleship Potemkin" — A historical spectacle over 3 hours, passionately crafted by Sergei Eisenstein, depicting a pivotal moment in history.
This film portrays the tumultuous life of Tsar Ivan IV, known as "The Terrible," a despotic ruler who fought against foreign invasions and noble tyranny in medieval Russia, ultimately building a powerful nation.
- Part 1 features pictorial compositions and stylized caricatures reminiscent of Kabuki, with a bold touch that stirs cinematic excitement.
- Part 2 depicts challenges to noble conspiracies and the elimination of obstacles, which can be interpreted as a critique of Stalin's regime.
- The film was banned from screening for 12 years.
- Nikolai Cherkasov's intense performance is remarkable.
