About the artist
Yasuhiko Otsuka (conductor)
Graduated from the Department of Composition at the National Music University. From 1969, he served as conductor of the Kanagawa Youth Symphony Orchestra, engaging in music activities with young people for about 30 years. He began teaching handbells in 1978 and has served as conductor and instructor at national workshops and instructor training sessions organized by the Japan Handbell Federation since 1985. In 2001, he served as a special lecturer at the "Korea National Workshop" in South Korea, working to promote handbells and develop instructors. Since 1994, he has been a lecturer and conductor of all-performances at the World Championships, including the "Japanese Music" piece. His popular all-performances include Japanese-style works such as "Memories of Childhood" (1994), "Banquet" (1998), "Hana No.2" (2006), and "Miyabi" (2012). He has conducted symposium and choir performances at the Asian Games (2006) and World Championships (2010). He has produced over 160 CDs and published handbell sheet music. Currently, he is a managing director of the NPO Japan Handbell Federation, a lecturer at Ferris University Open College, and runs the "Otsuka Handbell Class." He also provides guidance to several amateur teams.
