【Q&A】

Q. Is it possible to use over an open flame (direct fire)?
A. As stated in the guidebook, it is possible to use over a campfire. However, conditions such as high heat, cooking without oil, or cooking with minimal moisture that leads to dry burning may cause the coating to deteriorate by exceeding the heat resistance temperature.
While heat resistance and durability have been improved, since fire strength cannot be adjusted when using a campfire, please exercise caution.
*Note: If deliberate damage occurs due to misuse over a fire, warranty coverage may be voided.*
For longer-lasting coating, use solid fuel, alcohol stoves, or gas cans.

Q. Can I immediately immerse or wash the product after heating?
A. No abnormalities were observed in tests conducted by testing agencies, but to preserve the non-stick coating, it is recommended to wait until the product cools before immersing in or washing with water.
*In tests based on JIS standards, repeatedly immersing the product in water immediately after heating to 200°C showed no abnormalities.*
Heat shock test: The sample body is placed on a gas stove, heated without contents at a level that does not overflow from the bottom, until the internal bottom reaches 200°C, then immersed in tap water for 1 minute. This process is repeated 10 times, then checked visually and by touch for looseness or peeling.

Q. Is it okay to use metal cookware or tools?
A. Durability against abrasion has been confirmed through testing, but to maintain the non-stick coating, it is recommended to use soft utensils made of resin, silicone, or plastic.
*Self-tests also confirmed high resistance to lateral contact (scraping against metal). However, vertical contact such as metal hitting metal can cause peeling of the coating, so please be careful.*
In tests based on JIS standards, no exposure of the base material or other abnormalities were observed during wear resistance testing.
Wear resistance test: The sample is placed in a wear tester, and a stainless steel plate is stroked approximately 50 mm at 40 cycles per minute for 3,000 cycles. Afterward, the surface is visually inspected for damage or exposure of the aluminum base.

Q. Is it okay to perform dry heating (empty heating) without contents in the mess tin?
A. In our own tests, heating at around 350°C for 10 minutes with no contents showed no abnormalities. However, prolonged dry heating may exceed the heat resistance temperature, so it should be avoided.
*Note: During smoking, be careful not to exceed the temperature range of 50–120°C.*

Q. Why is the heat resistance temperature lower compared to non-stick coated mess tins from other companies?
A. Based on tests by external agencies and our own evaluations, the temperature at which no impact on the non-stick coating (appearance, sticking resistance, etc.) was observed was set at 350°C.
*As long as you do not perform prolonged dry heating, typical cooking methods such as baking, boiling, frying, or smoking will generally not exceed 350°C.*

Q. Is it compatible with IH cookers or microwave ovens?
A. No, it is not compatible.

Q. Is the non-stick coating on the ThiOuThe LIFE mess tin applied to other companies’ mess tins?
A. No, the non-stick coating is applied only to the original ThiOuThe LIFE mess tin, not to other brands.

Q. Is the lid also coated with non-stick?
A. Yes, the entire lid (inside and outside) is coated with non-stick.

Q. Will the non-stick coating on the lid’s underside get scratched when opening and closing?
A. Durability has been confirmed through testing, but repeated opening and closing may cause scratches on the corners of the lid that contact the main body.
*This is not a defect; it is due to the coating process on the lid’s underside.*
The silicon and silicone resins used in the coating meet food hygiene standards. Even if ingested accidentally, they are not absorbed by the body and will pass through and be excreted naturally.
