The protagonist of the story is "Hayato Yamamoto," a second-year student who has just transferred to "Yashiro High School." He falls in love at first sight with "Shizuku Shinomiya," a lovely girl he sees sitting on a school bench. By chance, Hayato picks up a diary she left behind. He decides to return her diary along with a present on the upcoming White Day, and sneaks into the school alone late at night on March 13th, the day before. In the school at midnight, terrifying ghosts appear, and the security guards who are supposed to protect the students attack the fleeing students, transforming the school into a space of fear and despair. For some reason, the school gate is locked tight, and Hayato finds himself trapped in the school at midnight with no escape. While trying to escape, Hayato teams up with students also trapped in the school, "Sayaka Fujinoi" and "Hikari Tominaga," as well as the girl he fell in love with, "Shizuku." While searching for a way to escape with the heroines who have wandered into the school at midnight, Hayato gets closer and closer to the terrifying secret hidden within "Yashiro High School."
