(formerly Akagi Hirohachi Shoten, founded in Taisho 5) has been a long-established pencil manufacturer that has led the Japanese pencil industry for over 80 years, holding the second-largest market share after Mitsubishi Pencil TOMBOW Pencil. However, due to the collapse of the bubble economy, the company fell into financial difficulties and went bankrupt in 1997. The Corin brand of pencils, long familiar with its triangular face logo, disappeared from the Japanese market. However, the Corin pencil production factory in Thailand, which was operating at the time, was taken over by local capital, and they attempted to supply Corin brand colored pencils to the domestic market in Thailand. But the core of colored pencils, the colored cores, depended on supply from other companies, and the quality was unstable, leading to sluggish sales. To turn the situation around, in 2009, they established a colored core production factory in Thailand with technical support from a long-established colored core manufacturer in Sumida, Tokyo. Once high-quality colored cores began to be supplied, sales of Corin brand colored pencils surged, and they are now widely loved as the number one colored pencil in Thailand. This year, in Reiwa 1 (2019), after 22 years, the Corin brand colored pencils, along with the triangular face logo, fully reappeared in Japan.
