A Journey to the Extraordinary: The Scene of Kiyomizu-dera Temple
Founded long ago, Kiyomizu-dera is one of the few temples in Kyoto with a history dating back before the transfer of the Heian Capital.
For many, this temple, overlooking the city from Mount Otowa, embodies the quintessential "Kyoto image."
It also represents a grand, tranquil landscape that can be considered part of the Japanese people's mental imagery—a soothing and majestic scene captured in woodblock print.
High-Quality Presence of Hand-Pressed Woodblock PrintsUsing traditional woodblock techniques, each color is carefully pressed layer by layer, creating a natural sense of three-dimensionality and warmth through slight printing irregularities and the texture of Japanese paper.
The size is slightly larger than a postcard. It naturally blends into any space—be it the entrance, hallway, study, or living room.
【Recommended for these people】- Those attracted to Kyoto and Japanese culture who want to display art anywhere without restrictions- Those seeking a "little travel feeling" or relaxation in daily life- Those who want to easily incorporate high-quality art into their environment- Those wishing to add seasonal changes to their living space with art
By decorating your room with this piece, your everyday space transforms into a rich, travel-like experience. It brings the memory of "prayer and travel at Kiyomizu-dera" into daily life.
Please enjoy its dignified beauty and profound healing power firsthand.
Ideal as a Thoughtful GiftKiyomizu-dera is a symbol of "success, health, and purity." Gifting its scenery brings brightness and a dignified atmosphere to the recipient’s daily life.
Perfect as a gift for housewarming, new birth celebrations, or for travel enthusiasts.
About the MaterialThe woodblock print is made on smooth, white Japanese paper, which offers excellent color vibrancy and durability, suitable for woodblock printing.
It is created using the traditional "hand-pressed woodblock print" technique, where carved images on wood are colored onto paper one by one.
Woodblock Artist: Kenji Takenaka
Kenji Takenaka, the creator of the Ishibe Alley scene, is the fifth-generation master of Takenaka Mokuhanga. He learned the craft from the current head, Kiyohachi Takenaka, from childhood, mastering the techniques of woodblock printing.
He captures subjects with bold compositions and vivid colors, expressing a simple yet profound sense of depth, creating a unique worldview.
He holds exhibitions mainly in Kyoto and other regions, not only producing works but also offering design services using woodblock prints for companies, proposing new ways to enjoy this traditional art.
Some of his works are housed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Honolulu Museum of Art. He actively engages in workshops and exchanges through woodblock printing both domestically and internationally.

Brand: "Takesusa-do"
Founded in Kyoto in 1891, Takenaka Mokuhanga has inherited over 130 years of diverse techniques—from reproductions of Japanese paintings to commercial printing—using Kyoto-style woodblock printing methods.
The current head, Kiyohachi Takenaka, researches old techniques and passes them on to younger generations. The fifth-generation Kenji Takenaka established Takesusa-do, creating new works and selling woodblock prints and paper stationery at their shop.
The sixth-generation, Hiroko Harada, is popular for her designs that fuse tradition with modernity, leading to the growth of Takesusa-do.
Today, they also work on product packaging utilizing woodblock prints and restoring antique prints, constantly exploring new possibilities.
