『フォレストシャッフル』では、ゲーム中に3枚の冬カードが現れゲームが終了するまでに、
生態的にバランスの取れた、動物や植物のための生息地を作っていくカードゲームです。
ゲーム中、プレイヤーの「森」に木々を植えていくことで、そこは様々な動物や植物や茸類が繁栄する森となります。
手番にプレイヤーは「デッキの上か公開されているカード置き場である空き地からカードを2枚引く」、
もしくは「カードを1枚プレイしてコストに等しい枚数のカードを空地に表向きで置く」ことになります。
カードは森の基本となる「樹」と、樹の上下左右のスペースに生息する(重ねて置く)、
上下もしくは左右に分割され別々の生物(「動物」、「鳥」、「昆虫」、「草」、「茸」など)の描かれたカードがあります。
森の生物はそれぞれ必要としている植生や場所、食料として必要とする生物、群れとなることなど、条件が記されています。
それらを考慮して森に配置することで生態系豊かな森となっていきますが、
カードは分割されているため一方の側として配置したらもう一方の側はあきらめなければならず、よく考えてプレイしなくてはなりません。
また、カードプレイ後に広場に10枚以上カードがある場合はすべて捨て札となりますが、
カードが残ってしまえば他のプレイヤーも引くことが可能なので広場に置くカードにも注意が必要です。
分割カードとカードコストの支払いのルールにより、深いゲーム性を持ち、美しいアートワークも併せ持つ、セットコレクションの環境育成カードゲームです。
