"Kokeshi dolls" are traditional wooden dolls from the Tohoku region.There are mainly three categories:- Traditional Kokeshi: A traditional craft that has continued for over 160 years. There are 12 lineages, each named after its place of origin. Kokeshi craftsmen train under a master for several years before they can create Kokeshi of their affiliated lineage.- Shingata Kokeshi (New Style Kokeshi): Kokeshi that began to be made in the 1950s as souvenirs from hot spring resorts and other tourist destinations. They come in many designs, featuring motifs of famous landmarks, scenery, and local specialties.- Creative Kokeshi: These have diverse designs as there are no specific rules or definitions.
"Traditional Kokeshi," in particular, were children's toys before the advent of manufactured goods. Kokeshi were played with by children as friends for pretend play, hugging, and carrying on their backs, so they were made with a simple shape of only a head and body to be durable.These are historical dolls that have lived alongside children, who used their imaginations to bring them to life within their simple forms.With their gentle and soft impression conveyed through their simple expressions, these dolls will bring a warm atmosphere to your room as interior decor even today.

Handling Instructions*The face and patterns of Kokeshi are painted with water-based dyes and are therefore very sensitive to water. To prevent color fading, please wipe with a dry cloth when cleaning.*The Kokeshi body is made of wood. Please avoid sudden drying, direct sunlight, and proximity to heating appliances such as air conditioners. Also, please be aware that mold may grow in very humid environments.
